THIS page shows what the different rests look like and their relationships to each other.

In a 4/4 measure, 1 whole note is 4 beats and:

              2 half notes fit in 1 whole note
              4 quarter notes fit in 1 whole note
              8 8th notes fit in 1 whole note
             16 16th notes fit in 1 whole note
             32 32nd notes fit in 1 whole note
